Surfing the Net.........

Now we know how we insert pictures in MS WORD XP.


Surf the net for information...

Now if one wants information for the project, there could be various media:
(i) The library books
(ii) School text books
(iii) Newspapers
(iv) Internet

While the first three options would not require computer skills, the internet would....

What are the various requirements for surfing the net for information?
A computer with an internet connection


Simple steps to surfing would be:

(i) Switch on your computer and let it boot.

(ii) After the booting process, simply switch on the modem and let the internet connection get started.

(iii) After the internet connection is established, we use an internet browser like Microsoft internet explorer, Google Chrome or even Netscape Firefox etc.

(iv) A web page of the browser opens up. Now type the web address/ URL of any search engine which could be:
www.google.com
www.yahoo.com
www.msn.com
www.rediff.com

(v) Once the search engine page opens up, type key words related to the information you are seeking: Floods in 2010 could be one example; Yamuna flooding; Ganga floods 2010,
If you want to know flooding of your local water body, simply type the name of the water body or the name of your local area.....
Web pages with relevant pages will be posted. Click and open pages and check information....
Try it out!!!!!
Next we'll learn how to copy paste the info you searched from the web page to your computer..........

Inserting pictures in MS WORD XP

Do you want to insert a Picture from your Scanner or Digital Camera in MS Word XP?

Here's an easy trick to do so!


1. Place the picture or the document on the scanner bed. Or, take the image directly from the digital camera or your camera's memory card.


2. Go to the Insert tab. Select the Picture option.


3. Then select the "From Scanner or Camera" option from the drop down menu.


3. Dialog boxes appear that guide you through the insert process!


4. Simple isn't it?


Try scanning and inserting old photographs and make your family album on MS Word......

Take prints and gift them to your family.

A project idea for MS Word

Incessant rains in India are causing rivers to swell and flood. Read the local newspaper and find out the situation of any water body close to your native place and write a short account in MS Word with the following specifications:

(i) Text in Arial Black
(ii) Heading to be in Bold and italics, size 20

(iii) It should be in two paragraphs

(iv) The word count should not be more than 200 words

(v) If possible insert a picture of the water body

Take a printout and put it up in the computer lab board!!
